Avocados and Your Health
Avocados are grown on trees and known as a fruit. More than 95% of avocados consumed by Americans come from Hass trees grown above & below the equator. Avocado trees grown and actually bloom flowers the first 2-3 years of life, then switch to producing fruit.
Avocados ripen in warmer temperatures, so storing them on the counter will help them ripen and putting them in the refrigerator will slow them down.
Heath Benefits
There are a ton of health benefits to consuming them. Avocados are considered a “superfood”. (Superfood- “a nutrient-rich food considered to be especially beneficial for health and well-being”.) They are packed full of nutrients and healthy fats. Avocados contain:
- Vitamin K: 26% of the daily value (DV)
- Folate: 20% of the DV
- Vitamin C: 17% of the DV
- Potassium: 14% of the DV
- Vitamin B5: 14% of the DV
- Vitamin B6: 13% of the DV
- Vitamin E: 10% of the DV
- It also contains small amounts of magnesium, manganese, copper, iron, zinc, phosphorous and vitamins A, thiamine, riboflavin and niacin.
You have to have fat for your body to function properly. In fact 77% of the calories in it are from fat, making it one of the fattiest plant foods in existence. The fat in avocados is known as oleic acid. Oleic acid has been associated with reduced inflammation and shown to have beneficial effects on genes linked to cancer.
It has a growing trend for good reason! You can add it to all kinds of things. You can have it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Avocado toast, tacos, nachos, chips and guacamole, soups, shakes, eat it by itself, add eggs to them and bake, add it to salad, have it in sushi, the list goes on and on. You can also use avocado oil in your cooking to add healthy fat, instead of man made oils.

Chiropractic focuses on whole body health, not just adjusting the spine and joints. Sometimes the reason for pain is due to your diet. You can ask your chiropractor if they can help you tweak your diet to help you start living a better healthier life.
If you have questions on any pains you are having give us or a chiropractor near you a call! What you put into your body will affect it. Whether it is immediately or later down the road. Changing habits now will save you a lot of money later. Health care is cheaper than sick care.
